" oh hi." She said still sitting outside the cabin she hadn't brought herself to go inside.

"Well guess he just turned into a Hardass then." He said.

"Come inside." She said waving to her. "I have a book you might like." She said.

" okay." She said following.

" I don't know what happened. Maybe finding this girl will do him good." Gabby mentioned.

Lindsy waited for her and sat on the bed. She was holding a book hand written and bound together.

"I doubt it, maybe it was just an out." He said.

" and out? How can helping someone be an out?" She asked.

Cheza went and sat next to her.

"A way to forget about the wrongs younger done."

"This booked, was written by my late husband. It's about a bird and a lost child becomi.g friends and helping each other become free."

" okay." She said softly.

" or just to be a good person." Gabby defended.

Lindsay started to read her the story. "The wind howled outside of the safety of the house when a thump broke the silence as something hit the wall of the cabin. Ness left the safety of the house to find out what it was."

"Him, being a good person, I doubt it." He shook his head.

Cheza listened intently

" you really have no faith in him?" Gabby shook her head.

"If I was on the battlefield with him, I wouldn't put my dice on living. " He responded.

The story was of Ness and and a mutant bird that they nursed back to health despite the wishes of the others. It wasn't a long story but it was heartwarming.

" am I the bird?" Cheza asked.

Gabby just shook her head. " I can't believe you."

"What, sure he works out a lot but the muscles don't make the man. He's got that blind side, why do you think he was gutted during the raid? He's a weak person who needs to learn his place isn't on the field. The first fight he was really in fighting alone he got his apprentice killed and was half blown up. He's more of a burden then anything. Honestly the next time he runs to the ruins to get away from us all, I hope he gets eaten alive by whatever monsters live out there." He huffed.

"Yes, you are kind of like the bird in the story. Misunderstood and unknown but not as bad as we first thought." Lindsy said gently smiling.

Cheza smiled softly. " scar got in trouble because of me." She told the elderly woman.

Gabby huffed shaking her head. " I can't believe you."

"It's not like he is here to disprove any of this." He said. "And don't act like you see him in the limelite. The dude became an asshole quick and became even worse after the incident."

"Oh i.wouldnt day it was in trouble, I would say it was more like he got a Stern talking to. Truth be told, Ian liked the night shifts. He seems more at peace in the dark. He's a good man at heart, but he's been hurt so much I hate to see him like this." She sighed. "so I want you to be like Ness and help him heal as well as he be a Ness for you, someone you know you can trust, and always go to for help as well as someone you know you can help in times of need and expect to get help in return."

" and wouldn't you when people say such terrible things about you?" Gabby defended her friend.


" how do I do that?" She asked

"Fuck if I know. I'm not a failure. Good thing his father is dead, otherwise Firestorm would disown him."

"Be yourself." Lindsy smiled.

" no he wouldn't. " gabby snapped glaring at him. " you are one of the reasons he's like this."

"Oh come on! You didn't even know Firestorm!" He snapped back.

" I knew him a little. But he seemed like a good father who cares for his children." Gabby hissed frustrated at her clan mate.

" but I'm no good myself." Cheza mumbled looking at he lap.

"how the hell did you know him? You weren't born until after he was called dead." He snapped.
"It's not like you knew him either, Pinefeet" Tadoda's voice barked out.
"If the two of you don't stop bickering you will attract monsters." Scar growled.

"my mother new him." Gabby hissed under her breath.

Tadoda stepped out into the group and came to the two of them. "Let's all just cool down. Pinefeet, head back to the clan, hawkfather why don't you come with me on a boarder patrol." He said.
Pinefeet huffed and walked away.

" okay." She nodded agreeing with him.

"Good, let's go you two." Tadoda said as he threw his sword back over his shoulder and listened for the click of the attachment before letting go. He walked off towards the south. "We're gonna go check on a tree that fell down on the boarder of us and hollowclan." He told them.

Gabby has her apprentice go back to the clan with pinefeet. As she followed tadoda to the boarder.
