She glanced at Jonas.

I can protect myself." Tadoda said.
"You say that now but whenever I see it I cant hold my stomach together. As much as I want power, I'm not about the life to take over the gang or dark members. I had no reason to kill Ivan." Makkro said. "Believe me or not, but I didn't want Ivan to die. He was our leg up on the others with that ability to see souls. No one could hide from us. I think that is why he was killed first." He said.
"I already knew that." Tad said. "Lean that way so I can stitch up this side."
Makkro groaned. "I was thinking Tad... how could something like this happen to Ivan who could sneak up on him when he sees souls." He said. Tad stayed quiet. "The only way someone could ambush Ivan was if they had no soul."

She sucked in her breath quietly.

"That is impossible. People can't live without a soul. Even I have a soul." Tad said.
"But what if some how it happened like that?" Makkro said.  "It's the only way someone could have gotten the jump on Ivan."

“Chase?” She whispered to Jonas. He was the only person she could think of without a soul at the moment.

Jonas nodded in agreement as he listened.
"It still makes no sense for them to not have a soul." Tad said.
"Okay what if the soul was worse than yours? what if it was Pitch black?" Makkro said.
"Ivan should have been able to see the soul still."
"Ivan once tried to describe how he saw souls to me, he said it's like standing in a black room, and souls, flicker with life as they come into a field of vision he saw."
"I know that." Tad hissed.
"So what if someone with a dark enough soul came at him fast enough." Makkro said. "It only makes sense. I can also only think of one person with a soul darker than yours and that's Conway. He just gives off this sick feeling whenever I get near him." Makkro grew quiet. "It's like rotten blood, makes your stomach churn and heave, but you can't for the life of you throw up."

Valentina, getting bored after a while, ordered a drink. She picked out something new and unfamiliar on the drink menu but when it came she took the first sip she winced. Damn, that's strong. No more after this one... I 'm working now, I can't afford to get drunk. She said, continuing to drink it but getting up to distance herself from the bar. She found a secluded table by the wall.

The door of the bar opened and in stepped the two twins. Tsume was first to enter. He was wearing loose gloves the metal claws that gave him his name no where to be seen. Kiba followed his brother in suit. He looked worse for wear. He was still wearing his muzzle but it was covered by a bandanna to hide the muzzle. The two of them walked over to the bar and started to talk to one of the tenders. Kiba swayed and steadied himself against his brother.

Valentina watched them come in. She shifted in her chair to sit sideways, drink in one hand and leaning her back against the wall. She mustered up the courage to down a good quarter of the strong drink in one swig and winced. She probably looked too conspicuous gazing around the bar but she didn’t care too much.

The man at the counter shook his head. Tsume sighed and went to leave but he spotted Val and walked over to her. "Hey." He said as he shoved the remains of his hands in his pockets.

“Hey. Bartender cut you two off?” Val asked, looking up at Tsume as he walked over. “Or are you two looking for someone as well?” She asked

"Chase, I'm looking for Chase." Tsume said. "You mind if we sit?" He asked. "Or if Kiba sits?" He said.

She squeezed Jonas’s hand. Hearing the explanation for how Ivan must have died must be difficult for him.

"Then you and everyone else stay far away from him." Tad said. "I will deal with Conway."
"You'll need help."
"No, I won't. I will finish him alone. Makkro make me this promise. Protect the Gargoyles. I don't care who it is you protect them. that is what a gargoyle mean, to protect your family, your home and your bonds."
"I know that."
"Then make this promise or I'll rebreak your arm."
"Fine, I promise to protect them." Makkro huffed. "Just be careful and don't go anywhere alone." He said.

“I was waiting for Chase back in the warehouse but he never showed up.” Val shrugged. “Go ahead.” She gestured to the other chairs at her table.

"I've been needing to talk to him for a while." Tsume said as he helped his brother sit down. "I need more medicine for Kiba." He said as Kiba sat down and hung his head coughing.

She frowned. Tad was asking Makkro to protect them?

The two men grew quiet.
Jonas moved away from the wall.

She shuffled back silently with him.

Jonas sat down and held his head.

“Jonas . . . “ she said softly.

"What kind of medicine? Surely Chase isn't the only one who can get it for you." Val asked.

"I'm fine, just...It's a lot to take in..." He whispered.

"I'm not sure." Tsume said as he noticed Kiba had fallen asleep. "He supplies me with the medicine for Kiba as long as I do any jobs he gives me. But he hasn't given me any jobs lately and he is getting worse." Tsume said as he sighed.

“I can find Yawen for you, she could probably get you any drugs or medicine you want.” Valentina offered
