Guardians (RP thread)

“You sad about her leaving?” Lei asked. “I didn’t think you’d take it that much to heart.”

"I'm not. I'm just thinking of another place and time. Before I came to the house and met all the guardians, there were only ever two people I considered family. I was just thinking about what I went through with them." Eli replied as he glanced over at Lei. "You mentioned her dying and then I thought of when I had died for a couple of minutes..." He looked to the side and down. "They happened to be there and now I can only think about them."

The man came back in looking exhausted. He sat by the fire in the center of the room.

"Which two people?" Lei asked

"They were two of the other kids I lived with in one of the foster homes I bounced around to. They were like a little brother and a little sister to me." Eli responded

"The life a guardian is always a painful one." He said.

Eli sighs, "We were forced to separate years ago. I haven't seen them for 5 years. I wish I knew how they were."

"I guess my life has only started to get painful." Lei thought out loud. "Maybe you could visit them when things die down."

"Maybe I could... if I had any clue where they are." Eli said

"Aren't you the Guardian of Hell? Just ask the guardian of Earth to find them." the man said.

"Yeah ask Sam. The guardian that keeps running away and is the hardest to find." Lei chuckled

"You just don't understand her." Eli said, "She's the only one that's known the same experiences I did. It affects people differently. The running is one of those ways. I know I can find her if i need to... but... I'd rather find them myself. It's a personal thing to me."

"I've spent the last couple months trying to understand her, but she doesn't want to talk to me." Lei said.

"Well did I talk to you when I showed up? Or did I disappear for months with my mentor? I think you know the answer." Eli replied

"You did both just not in that order." Lei said, confused.

"I was superficial when we spoke before I left. That was part of why I went with Azriel to hell. I couldn't open up on a team. I ran from all of you until Azriel brought me with him. He taught me how to get past my own personal blocks even if I didn't feel like really letting any of you in." Eli said. "I understand Sam a bit, she never knew family. I didn't either, except those two i mentioned already."

"Well I probably won't be seeing my mother again, and my sister is dead. I wonder if mom will even find out that Quinn is dead, or if she'll just think both of her kids have run off on her." Lei said.

Eli sighed, "Lei, while that is terrible... it isn't the same. With enough time, she'll learn how to break out of her shell and she will open up to everyone."

“I’m not talking about Sam anymore and I’m not trying to compare that to what she’s been through!” Lei replied with an angry tone. “Jeez, Eli. Sam has always been able run off whenever she’s feeling down, but my sister just died this morning and I haven’t even been able to sit and let it sink in for one moment until now!” Lei huffed, getting up ans staring at the door. He remembered that they shouldn’t leave and he stopped.

"In case you haven't realized, I'm not the best at talking to people." Eli said as he looked away. "And... It's hard to understand losing someone when you've never really had anyone to lose. So I'm a bit blunt and I don't pick up on it when topics are fully changed. I didn't mean anything against you."

"Okay well word of advice, when someone's going through something, saying their problem is not as bad as someone else's is a jerk move." Lei said, sighing and sitting back down.

"I didn't say it isn't as bad, I only said it isn't the same." Eli replied. "But like I just said, I wouldn't understand what you are going through since I never had someone to lose..."

The man signed. "Life is never fair. It wasn't fair when I was a guardian and It won't be fair until time ends." He said.
