“But I’m not tired.” She protested, chewing her lip.

Kanon keeps to the treetops.

He mumbled another word in Spanish as tears started to roll out of his eyes.

"Well then, just lay down okay?" He asked.

Tad pushed the cat off and stood up. He put weight on the cat's back using it for support. A pack of wolves came up to Tad, who petted each one of them and called them all a name. He walked farther into the forest. The trees started to grow more gangling and weak looking the farther they walked.

She nodded and rolled her nightgown up to her knees before lying down in the bed, staring up at the ceiling

Jonas laid next to her.

“Jonas, where do you want to be in the future?”

"Alive."

She nudged him with her elbow. “I’m serious.”

"And I am serious." He said. "I don't want to get a job and just be stuck in a loop of work, sleep, work sleep. I wanna be alive! I wanna see places."

“And how do you plan to do that?” She arched an eyebrow and glanced over at him.

"Everything's fine Zak, what they did was just a trick. Your mother and everyone are fine." Cyrus said in Spanish, trying to console Zak.

"I don't know. Maybe I'll become a journalist, or a photographer."

Zak just mumbled more words.

She closed her eyes and smiled a bit. “That really suits you, you know.”

Cyrus put a hand to his forehead wondering if he had an infection or a fever.

"what suits me?" He asked.

He was growing hotter and hotter. His body was convalsing. Zak coughed up some blood.

“Journalism. Photography. You’re a dreamer, a person who appreciates the little things in life.” She glanced at him. “You would be good at those things.”

"You sure we shouldn't drive him to the hospital?" Cyrus asked, looking up to the front seat.
"On it." Fortunata replied, changing course towards the hospital.

"I've never even had practice." He said. "I've only ever looked at photos and said, Oh, how pretty." he said. Jonas sighed.

Zak gripped the seat with his hands.

She sat up and leaned closer to him. “Don’t doubt yourself like that.” She said firmly. “I know you can do it. I know you can.”

Cyrus held onto his shoulder on the turns and they stopped right out front of the hospital. Moving quickly Cyrus unbuckled Zak's seatbelt and his own, picking up Zak, pulling him out of the car and carrying him to the entrance.

Kanon keeps to the treetops as much as she could, not wanting to jump to the ground.

"I'm glad you think so." he said gently.

Doctors rushed to him when they saw him.

The trees became dead and only faint light seeped into the area. Something hung from the trees. What she could not tell for the trees on the perimeter grew tall enough to create a canopy to cover the dead thicket. Tad walked into the thicket and sighed. He reached into the stump of a log and pulled out a lantern lighting it with his Zippo. As the lantern slowly lit the area, the trees gave way to their secrets. From the trees hung bones of all kinds. Most where rib bones, but there where some leg bones, parts of arms. There was one skull and a few hips and shoulder blades. A femur hung in front of her, only inches from her face. As it spun she noticed something carved into the leg. "Marcus Greyson" was the named carved into the bone. Some bones hung parallel to the ground and other hung perpendicular to the ground. "Marcus Greyson" Hung perpendicular. The name sounded familiar but from where. Tad slowly got to the ground and kneeled. The mountain lion laid on the ground behind Tad, against a tree. Tad leaned back against the cat and stretched his legs out. He petted the cat's head as he leaned on her. The wolves that had followed them, laid around Tad's legs, two of them laying on his leg. An older female wolf hobbled in, with a small puppy stumbling after her. The puppy yipped and moved over to Tad in a ball of excitement. He scooped the puppy up an she noticed that the pup was missing part of it's front leg and a paw on one of it's back legs. But in replacement was some wooden limbs. "You're getting bigger Rascal." Tad said as the puppy cuddled into his chest and he looked at the fake limbs. "I'll need to fix your replacements." He said softly. The old female laid her head on his lap and chest. He gentle rubbed her ear, the one she still had.

She smiled a bit and glanced towards the door, faintly hearing laughs and glasses clinking upstairs.

"They're remembering him how he should be remembered." He smiled.

She looked up at him. “What’s your favorite memory of Ivan?”
