Dalton chuckled. "It may be a good thing." He said. "I was a better person when I had her to yell at me."

" still. Everyone keeps comparing me to her." Kayla huffed." And you need someone to keep you from kiling yourself from your own stupidity."

"You should take that comparison a compliment." Dalton said as he flexed his hand again. "She was a smart and wise person. She was beautiful and brave and-" he trailed off. "...And you are a lot like her."

Kayla watched him carefully. " but she's your dead Ex wife." She said bluntly. " sorry for the bluntness. But you guys split... So comparing me to her makes me feel like I won't be a good fit at your Zoo."

"It was her actions that caused us to split, not the work. You have her mentality, not her actions." He said. "I judge based upon three things: 1) work ethnic, 2) ability to take order and 3) competence."

" the order one I might break will tell you that now." Kayla told him honestly.

Dalton shrugged slightly. "At least your honest. And the order one is more or less, if I give you a list of chores will you do them, or will you complain about them." he explained.

" can I ask why y'all split?" Kayla asked sheepishly.

Dalton took a long sigh. "S-She cheated on me with one of my maintenance men."

" really?" Kayla gasped. " she cheated on you? A walking Michelangelo sculpture?"

"Excuse you?" He asked socked by the last comment.

Kayla looked out the window trying to hide her blushing face. " huh what?" She said trying to cover up what she said."

Dalton grew quiet as he drove. He flexed the muscles in his arm again.

Kayla glanced at him and quietly said " that really does suck that she cheated on you with an employee. "

Dalton sighed. "Yeah it did. I didn't handle it well either, that's why she left. I wish I had been better though, maybe I wouldn't have lost them."

" how so?" Kayla asked. " she slept with someone else and expect nor to be upset about it?"

"It was completely out of the blue. She wasn't showing any reason or anything as to why she would cheat. It wasn't normal or predictable." Dalton said.

" so why do you feel bad for getting mad and not handling it well? I don't think anyone would have handled the situation well."

"Because I neglected my responsibilities." Dalton said. "When I found out I burned down the barn Don was working on, drank myself into a small comma and then neglected Kyle when he was given to me." Dalton said. "Had I handled myself better, my son wouldn't be fucked up to where he need 7 pills a day to keep him from dying and maybe my daughter wouldn't hate me." Dalton ranted before taking a long sigh. "Maybe...I could be happy."

" Sometimes things have to happen to learn." Kayla answered him. " yes you did stupid things but learn from it and go."

"It's easier to say I learned from it when in reality I didn't." Dalton said. "I didn't change I just went back to who I was before I was with Rachel."

" then change. Be better. "

"I have better things on my mind." He said flatly as he turned off the never ending road and started to drive pass a few old abandoned buildings almost to town.

" like?" She questioned.

"Bettering the zoo, finding employees I can trust."
