Mortals and Undead (2.0)

The plate and fork continued to float upwards towards the ceiling and Vara laughed.

"How did you get the ability to turn into a werewolf?" Akaru asked

"Nyla, how could I be? My best friend was the guy who got hit by the meteor, I spend most my time training with a guy, whose barely an adult and can't control his ability and i'm practically dead." He said letting a bit of his bigger secret slip from his mouth.

Nyla didn't seem to taken back by his dead slip. " Your friend is the first super. The thing about being a man made super there is always a downside. Yes I can heal people, but that healing energy comes from somewhere."

" man I haven't had this good of a meal in months." Ryder poutted.

She lowered the plate back down gently onto the table, along with the fork. "Sorry." She laughed, going back to her own plate.

" dude can you imagine all the practical jokes you can pull on people?" Ryder asked her.

"I have pulled practical jokes, I'm surprised I haven't been kicked out of the Haven for them yet." She smirked. "Maybe my power is just too useful to be kicked out."

" what's the best one you've done so far?" Ryder asked.

"You say it like turned supers don't have down sides." Atlas said stopping.

"A rouge Scientist wanted to discover more about Supers and how genetics played a part in it...so he took my dad and I... he kept us drugged and...killed my dad in order to find the gene that was affected." Wolf said. "Once my dad died he was pissed off so he took that gene of my fathers and spliced it into me..." Wolf sighed. "Wish you could have seen my dad. He was almost twice the size of me and his fur was so black,it almost wasn't real."

" not as negitive of a side affect" nyla told him.

"Well one time during one of Henri's speeches to the rest of us I made a small rock float and spin over his head. He never noticed and no one else said anything." She chuckled.

(that rogue scientist sounds like Ryder's dad lol)

"So your father gained the ability from the meteor crash, but you got it from his splice of DNA?" Akaru clarified. "I'm really sorry about your father. Do you know what ever happened to the rogue scientist?" He asked, concerned that a scientist like that could still be out there to hurt other people.

( maybe he is?)

" Oh that's amazing!" Ryder laughed.

"Everyone knew if they laughed at it they would get in trouble, or Henri would've been angry anyway if they tried to speak up about it, so the whole crowd was silent for the whole speech while it was dancing over his head." She went on.

(Maybe...!)

"It still means we have our disadvantages. Nyla." Atlas said. "You know what I think? I think the reason you cant fully control your abilities is because you keep moping around and feeling sorry for yourself instead of readying yourself and strengthening it."

"I'm not sure. He left one day and never came back. About a week later Saber found me in the building." Wolf said.

" I can see that. Everyone to scared to speak up." Ryder grinned.

" You don't think I haven't tried?" Nyla snapped glaring at Atlas. " You try having my powers at least now I can control them enough I can touch people with out killing them."

"I'm just saying as long as you are afraid of yourself you'll never get better." Atlas snapped back.
"Alright enough you two." Cutter said getting in between them. "Atlas just take us to your place so I can drink."

"So he could still be out there somewhere, maybe experimenting on other people." Akaru said. "Maybe that's something we should be cautious about when scavenging. Have you ever run into any other survivors while you're scavenging? Ones that didn't join the Haven after you found them." he asked

"People are on guard more about my pranks now so I've been sort of "laying low". I haven't used my powers much in the past month or so." Vara said. "People are more likely to trust me that way I've found."

Wolf shook his head. "I hope the mad man isn't still out there." he sighed. "And as for seeing other no, not really I've only heard about Atlas, never seen him though." Wolf said.

" again you don't think I have been trying?" Nyla told him still a bit bitter.

" wish I had a more fun power." Ryder told her.

"I guess you can't control yours, it's less like a power, and more like something that just happens to you at random." Vara said.

Ender went looking for the guard woman who had been leading him around after the crowd outside dispersed. He went back into the Haven's main building through the first door he found and wondered where he could get his bag and other stuff back, if they would allow him to have it back yet.

"Do you know what he looked like? What his name was? Anything to identify him that the other scavengers could help keep a lookout for just in case?"

" yeah my power just happens, no control at all." Ryder nodded.

The guard turned a corner and almost ran into Ender and jumped with a yelp. "Sorry! I didn't expect you to appear like that." She said. "Here I have your things." She said holding it out to him,

"Then it means you still have your own demons to tame." Atlas said.

Wolf shook his head. "I...dont have a lot of memories from back then." He shivered.

"Ah, thanks." Ender took his things and double-checked that everything was there. "How often do the scavengers normally go out?" he asked curiously.

Vara finished her plate of food and leaned back on her chair. "I've heard some things about man-made supers. If it's true there's hope yet that you could find a more fun power." she chuckled

"Well we'll be sure to look out for an evil-looking man in a labcoat." Akaru tried to add some levity.

Nyla fell silent not saying anything back.

Ryder didn't chuckle at what she said. He just looked at her flatly with no emotion at all.
