"Jonas' eyes softened. "Yeah....I love her like I've never felt love before. I see her and I can't help but want to protect her." He said.

This softened a smile out of him. “Good. She’s fierce, so I’m sure she loves you fiercely. But keep in mind, if you break her heart or hurt her, she’ll probably kick your ass.” He chuckled a bit, then became serious again. “Show her the goodness in the world. Show her what life is outside of a gang. She’s started to see goodness now that she has you, but if she’s surrounded by blood and death, her light might flicker out.”

"I'll make sure she sees it." He said. "And I know she can kick my ass." He said with a smile.

“Good.” He chuckled and glanced towards the horizon. “Don’t tell Sky this . . . But I think my time in this world may be coming to an end.”

"Wh-What?" Jonas said now worried himself. "If you think the Sabers are turning on you, leave them, join the Gargoyles, we will protect you." He said quickly.

He smiled wryly. “The others wouldn’t want that. Besides, they’d find me eventually. I can’t hide behind other people for the rest of my life.”

"Then..." He looked down as his fists curled into balls. "Then I want you to take Skylar out on a date." He said. "One last night for her...if your really think you won't be around much longer." He said looking at Ashton with determined eyes.

Ashton smiled a little. “I certainly can do that. And I know she can take care of herself but . . . can you promise that you’ll always be there for her?”

Jonas looked down and nodded. "I can do that for her. But... you should be there for her as well." He said with a sad expression.

“I’ve let her down, kid. You’re the one she needs. Not me.”

"But you're her blood." He said. "No matter how much people change, blood is still blood, we are still connected by it. Even the worse people have someone to cry over their corpse in the end." He said. "I don't want her to lose that." Jonas said. "And she still loved you, I know that."

“I won’t give up on life easily but . . . I’m just warning you it’ll probably happen.” He sighed. “Can you tell her to meet me tomorrow at 1:00?”

"Yeah, where do you want me to tell her?" He asked.

“By the little ice cream place on the town square. She loved that place growing up.”

"Okay." Jonas said. "I will let her know." He said. "Just stay safe." He said.

“You too, kid. If you ever need anything . . .” He trailed off and suddenly ruffled his hair. “Don’t get too handsy with my sister! You hear?”

Jonas blushed. "I don't think you have to worry." Jonas said rubbing the back of his head. "I don't know what I'm doing and...I don't want to hurt her."

Ashton chuckled. “I suppose if anything, Sky would be the more daring one. Though I know she’s shy too.” He said thoughtfully.

"Yeah, she is more bold. She was the first one to say I love you..." Jonas said.

He grinned. “That’s Sky alright. Always straight forward and honest.”

Jonas smiled. "Yeah she is. She's kind of lifted everyone's spirits in the Goyles to be honest. It's been a while since I've seen everyone looks so happy." Jonas said a soft smile on his lips. "Even Tadoda is more lively than before."

“Really?” Ashton gave a sad smile. “After our parents died. . . And when she was with the Sabers . . . She looked so dead inside. She hardly smiled and she looked like she was drowning . . . I’m glad she can smile again and be happy. I’m glad she doesn’t have to live surrounded by blood”

"I'm glad she's not as well. Tad's very careful to protect the members from that sort of stuff. It's why he normally saves it for the dark members." He said.

“Dark members?”

"They're the ones you hear about more than the others. They are the ones who do most the killing, the attacks, they are specially selected to do that type of work." He said. "They're the ones you read about in papers, it's almost always dark members." He said. "Ivan was a dark member...but he wasn't like the rest of them." He said. "He was a lot kinder, some think it's because Ivvy was blind, I think it's just because I was a good person at heart."
